The article discusses the role of works of folklore, namely proverbs in teaching the Tatar language and the formation of ethnic cultural competence of students. The use of proverbs in class, on the one hand, has a moral and educational nature, on the other - makes it possible to learn lexical semantic, grammatical and stylistic features of the Tatar language.
