Abstract

In understanding its glorious historical past, the Tatar social thought at the beginning of the XX century was guided primarily by perception of its written legacy, what clearly appears in publications of the newspaper «Tormysh» (Life). The newspaper seeks for answers to the questions «While considering itself a historical echo of the medieval Islamic revivalist activity, why did this activity subside so quietly?», «What does the society need to take if not for its revival, but at least in order not to sink into oblivion as it happened to some nations in the world?».
