Abstract
The author analyzes the historical and cultural challenges facing the Tatar society in the early twentieth century. During this period, the efforts of national consolidation of the Tatars, but the process of ethnic associations wore very controversial. The very historical epoch beginning of XX century proves the necessity of the western orientation of the Tatar nation, which draws her into a new socio-cultural community.
