Islamic Economics and Finance (Materials of the Second International Summit of Islamic Business and Finance, Kazan, June 28-29, 2010)

Abstract

When the global crisis broke out, many economists and the media began to talk about the Islamic financial sector’s resistance to crisis trends and a certain anti-crisis immunity that Islamic banks enjoy. The best way to illustrate this issue is to make a comparative analysis of financial indicators for 2008, the year when the global financial sector was the hardest hit, and performance in 2009 when the economy started to turn around (mainly due to steps taken by governments to prop up the financial sector). There are various types of the socalled Halal investment funds. They differ in terms of investment strategies, types of assets and many other characteristics.

Traditions of Sufism (tasavuf)

114-118 464
Abstract

The article examines the historical themes written by Akhmed Yasawi about great Sufi sheikhs: sheikh Mansur al-Halladj, sheikh Abu Bakr ash-Shibli and sheikh Abu Yazid alBistami. Controversial attitude of Akhmed Yasawi towards the ideas of Mansur al-Halladj is analyzed. For instance, he in his own fashion interprets the legend by Mansur al-Halladj about the butterfly (soul of the person), which burns in the flame of the candle (Light of Allah). In the same vein, Akhmed Yasawi critically addresses some theories of sheikh Abu Yazid al-Bistami. Only the ideas of Abu Bakr ash-Shibli are not critically discussed by Akhmed Yasawi. His image is illustrated by Akhmed Yasawi as an example for emulation and calls for assimilation of Sufi knowledge. However, a respectful personal attitude of Akhmed Yasawi in the khikmets towards spiritual and intellectual legacy of all great sheikhs is also found.
